During this course, you will use many social media and technology sites to brainstorm your ideas, collaborate with classmates, submit assignments, and access resources and activities. The following is a list of the media that will be used:
Edmodo will be used as the main hub to share information and address all the requirements for the assignments and activities. This will be the location for notifications to students, assignment submission, grades, and learning activities. This is the platform for synchronous discussions as well as for contacting instructors and other students. Students will complete assignments and discussions in the Edmodo discussion site. These discussions will be tied to the course writing skills activities.

Twitter will be used to conduct discussions for brainstorming and feedback on story and character ideas. Twitter allows students to share ideas for character development early in the writing process. Twitter is excellent for this purpose as the writer will need to be concise and thoughtful in their approach. Discussions will take place via a course hashtag to organize messages. Our course hashtage is #ELACADE. Please make sure to include this hastag on all course tweets.

A Wordpress.com blog will be used for completing weekly writing assignments. Wordpress blogs will be the location for posting original writing and using the comment features to post peer feedback. Students can offer suggestions and
collaborate on ways to improve writing skills. A blog is a great platform for sharing writing because it tracks initial posts as well as comments. Students will also have an archive of their writing and feedback once the course ends.

Diigo will be used for social bookmarking and research. Students will conduct research on course topics and share writing resources and stories using Diigo. Students will be responsible for showing evidence of their bookmarks in Diigo as screenshots posted onto Edmodo. Click the following link to go to the group Diigo page. Diigo will help students to organize and archive research. Students can locate both published stories and writing resources to save and share on Diigo. Students will need to set up their own account on Diigo and join the course Diigo group. Students will post resources to the group page to allow others to share their research. The benefit of Diigo is that students can highlight, tag, and comment on research to personalize research. Flickr will be used for photo and video sharing. Students will use Flickr to locate and share images for the inspiration board activity and for a final image to use on Scribd with the published story.

Pinterest will be used for curation to create a visual inspiration board to help with setting and characterization.
Students must set up a Pinterest account for this assignment. Pinterest is appropriate for this assignment because it is a wide, visual display of the writing project. Students will be able to see their story come to life on the Pinterest board. Visualization often aids writers in articulating written details about characters and setting.
